Today’s Scriptures
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Matthew 14:28-30 NKJV
Today’s Thought
The storm was already there when Peter stepped out of the boat. The wind was already blowing. The waves were already moving. But as long as Peter’s focus was on Jesus, he walked on what should have taken him under.
The problem began when Peter shifted his attention from Jesus to the storm. That is what happens to us too. We can be walking by faith one moment and sinking in fear the next when our focus changes. The storm may not disappear immediately, but it loses its power over your heart when Jesus has your attention.
Today’s Challenge
When the storm feels loud today, say out loud: “Jesus, I’m looking at You.” Refuse to let the wind and waves become bigger than the One who called you forward.
