Discipline vs. Consistency
Over the past year I’ve been consistent. I have faithfully worked out three days a week (at least). I’ve been pretty good with my diet. I’ve seen the results of that consistency.
But I noticed something lately. In the beginning I was super disciplined. I followed my meal plan exactly and didn’t deviate from it. I saw the positive changes I was looking for. Then I dropped off a little. I have still been consistent, but for the past several months I haven’t been as disciplined.
I slacked on my meal plan. I put on a couple of pounds. I lost a small amount of muscle. I stopped being disciplined. Because I was still being consistent in one area, I tricked myself into thinking that was enough. It’s not.
Today I started over, and made a plan to not just be consistent but to be disciplined. Just because I reached A goal doesn’t mean I’ve reached THE goal. So until I’m where I want to be, I have to not only be consistent but disciplined as well. And once I’m where I want to be I’m going to have to stay disciplined to stay that way.
Consistency can be good, (unless you’re consistently not good) but without discipline it doesn’t work!
