Play The Short Game
8 weeks. In 8 weeks I leave to go on a trip with my husband for our upcoming 20 year anniversary.
I’ve already started packing in my head, and my luggage will include an amazing dress I bought a year ago.
In order to look how I want to look in this dress, I’m going to have to work really hard for the next 8 weeks. I’m going to have to be super strict on my eating plan, go the extra mile in all of my workouts and probably throw in a little bit of Pilates too.
I have long term goals that I’m working towards but for the next 8 weeks I’m going to set short term goals each week.
Playing the long game is good, but sometimes you have to break it into bite sized pieces and play the short game.
What that looks like for me is setting a couple of short term goals for this week. I’m not looking past the next seven days. I’m just going to focus on the reasonable, achievable results I want to see by next week.
I’m going a step further and breaking down that seven day goal into a daily plan. At the end of the day I’ll check in to make sure I did exactly what I’m supposed to do. Then I’ll start all over again tomorrow. For today, I already did my workout, and I’ll eat exactly what I’m supposed to and none of what I’m not, and drink all of my water.
I’m not focused on eight weeks from now or even next week. I’m only focused on what I’m supposed to do today.
Sometimes in life we have to step back from the big picture for a minute and narrow our focus to play the short game.
Set an achievable goal for this week then figure out what you need to do each day to achieve that goal seven days from now! Take one day at a time and commit to whatever it is you need to do to see the results you want to see!
