Past Your Limits
Today was leg day, so that means I did squats which requires me to get a spot from my husband. I maxed out my reps at the weight I was at so needed to up it.
Normally when I add weight to the bar I do it in ten pound increments, 5 on each side. That’s always been the way I’ve done it. I’m comfortable with that. I’m confident with that.
Today when I was getting ready to add the plates, my husband said, “Nope! Go up 20 pounds!”
Wait, what? I immediately started thinking, 20 pounds more is a lot. I’m not sure I can do that. I have enough trouble with squats at the lower weight. How am I going to do 20 more pounds?
But my hubs said, “don’t think about it, just do it. You’ve got this.” “Keep your form right, keep your back straight, push off from your heels.”
So I did, and I easily squatted that weight. In fact I was planning to start with 6 reps but he made me do 7, and it wasn’t even a problem.
Sometimes we can get stuck in our own mindset of what we are capable of. We put ourselves in a box, and decide what our limits are going to be.
That’s when we need a coach, someone to help us break past our limits. Someone who sees more in us. Someone knows we can push it a little harder, add a little weight, and be a little greater.
Today let me encourage you that you can do a little more than you thought you could! You can handle a little more weight! You can go past your limits!
Push a little harder, go a little further, be a little greater! You’ve got this! I believe in you!
