Do The Darn Thing

Last week I told you how I was struggling to get motivated to workout. So I adjusted my schedule and moved my workouts to another day. I had the margin so I recalculated.

The extra day off did not seem to help my mental state. I woke up the next day and still really did not want to workout. The struggle was real! Also, it was legs day and that is my least favorite, so that made it worse.

However, I had no more margin. There were two days left in the week, and I had two workouts left to do. I procrastinated, I sat on the bench and checked my emails. I looked at the workout 15 times. I had zero motivation. My husband saw me sitting there and gave me a “pep talk”, which actually just means he told me to get off my butt and get it done.

With every fiber off my being I did not want to do it, but I made myself get up, hit start and do the darn thing! I did not enjoy it. I don’t even know if I was glad I did it. But I crushed it! I beat my time, upped my weight and knocked it out.

It took a couple days of making myself push through, before I broke my mental barrier, and got out of my feelings. This week I have a brand new mindset, and the only struggle has been when I upped the weight on my bicep curls.

If I had waited until I felt working out, I’d probably still be sitting on the bench a week later. Just because you don’t feel like doing something doesn’t mean you can’t do it well. You just have to override your feelings and determine that you are going to get it done anyways.

Maybe you are on the struggle bus like I was. Consider this your “pep talk”- Get off your butt and do the darn thing!

You’ve got this!
